IMRaD Topic Proposal

  1. Briefly explain why the topic you’ve chosen is important.
  2. State two research questions.
  3. Describe your research plan (talk about what kind of primary research you are planning to conduct, e.g., surveys, interviews, or experiment; research participants; research site; and ways to analyze data).

1. My topic proposal will be directed towards any student that owns a cell phone. I'll talk about cell phone use and how it can cause negative studying habits and ultimately cause worse grades overtime. I believe this is an important topic because in todays society everybody owns some form of cellular device and in a students perspective, many people find being on social media is more important than homework.

2. Two research questions I intend on answering are 1) How much time are you on your phone throughout the day and 2) Do you believe that your phone causes you to be off task and become less focused on school work

3) Ways in which I intend on collecting research is to create a survey to ask various students around campus as well as creating a twitter poll to get answers from my friends at other colleges and even ones that are still in high school.

Methods

Methods Participants:             The 36 participants in this study mostly consisted of college students from the University of Iowa ranging from freshman all the way up to seniors and grad students. There were also participants from other colleges in the state of Iowa such community colleges and a variety of four-year universities. Procedures:             The participants of this study were asked to answer a 7 question survey asking various questions surrounding the topic, " if the use of cell phones affect students in a negative way academically ".
